Starting a kingdom war story

I really feel like writing a story between kingdom diplomacy and wars but I have no idea how to begin with the story. Of course there will be this Main Character that will probably be one of the strongest of soldiers in the war, but the question remains - How could i start a Kingdom war story?

A big battle on the battlefield?

A brawl in the pub before main char is called up to active duty?

Someone looking through a telescope at the main character who is horseriding/being attacked by someone and the main char activates a special power?

The main char waking up outside of a pub, drunk?

The big battle on battlefield gave me some ideas, but i think it's just not enough.

Ok, a big battle on a battlefield surrounded by beautiful Cherry Blossom Trees that are withered and dying and if the good army doesnt defeat the bad army in time, the mages will activate their spell and put time 100 years into the future, only keeping the bad army the same age so the good army wither and die?


Or mabye even a fight between two foes - and the main character saves the enemy from being hit by his own army member - a traitor is in the midst!
A friendship forms but both escape their own armies to form their own, better army?

Well I do really, but i don't want to overdo with it. For example, I would like having mystical plants and non-realistic poisons (MAYBE living skeletons and summons). But not going back in time, flying, throwing fireballs and so on.

A mystical plant has poisoned the main character when he was fighting a war against another kingdom - he has 7 days to find the cure!

Isn't that your story beginning? ._.

No, my character has a long-term illness. It's nothing to do with poison.

Well, the time limit would need to either be extended or shortened, 7 days just seem not fitting for some reason. But thanks, it kinda gave me ideas ;D
